The markets have been reviewed and today's three Follow The Money selections come from the meetings at Exeter, Lingfield, and Wolverhampton...
We start off at Lingfield for the 14:30 Maiden over 1m for two-year-olds. Often with races such as this, with little form to go on the market is our best guide, and with that in mind easily the best backed horse is Perceus.
Trainer Marcus Tregoning has been firing in the winners of late with six winners from his last 20 runners and the market move from 3.953/1 in to 2.6813/8 is a tip in itself. If a further confidence booster is needed, second favourite and mount of Frankie Dettori Taysh has drifted like a barge from an early 2.982/1 out to 3.9. William Buick is a jockey in rare form and takes the ride.
Next we go to Wolverhampton where the 14:50 Nursery Handicap over 6f is probably not too high on Sheikh Mohammed's wish list of races to win. However, the main man behind Godolphin could carry home the prize today if the well backed Emirates Challenge can land the spoils.
The eye-catching market move from an early 9.617/2 in to 5.39/2 looks surprising on the face of her first four runs, all of which were on turf, where our selection has finished down the field on each occasion. There have been some flickers of talent though, and the headgear last time (hood and tongue tie) has been left off indicating it didn't have the desired effect. Trainer Saeed Bin Surour has his string in decent form right now and in the face of overwhelming market support our recommendation is to back Emirates Challenge to win on her all weather debut.
Puffin Billy looked a horse of some promise after winning a perfect four races from four runs in 2012, before 2013 became somewhat of an annus horribilis with all four races in that calendar year ending in defeat. Unfortunately injury means we haven't him on a racecourse since last November.
Today's 15:10 2m1f Beginners Chase at Exeter marks something of a new chapter for our selection, and it would be nice to see Puffin Billy back on track on his chase debut. However, the market and therefore by association the Follow The Money team are a hardened bunch with no time for sentiment and the drift from 2.89/5 out to 3.39/4 is carefully noted - a lay is the call. It may also be worth noting the solid market confidence behind Dunraven Storm - backed from 4.67/2 in to 3.613/5.
