Today's Follow The Money bets run at Southwell and Doncaster.
"Back on a winning mark, she has been running in better races than this, so today is arguably a drop in class and her last run at Wolverhampton was encouraging."
We have to wait until the fifth race of the day at Southwell to begin our betting and we commence with a lay in the 14:10 1m Maiden. William Haggas's Toofeeg has been surprisingly weak in the market; backed as low as 1.84/5 but now out to 3.1511/5. Arguably his best effort came last time out in early October, when second, between only a head over a mile on soft ground at Brighton. However, the winner was a 66/1 shot and the fourth horse has subsequently been beaten since. He's up against a well-backed Mark Johnston colt in the form of Crusading who is being punted as if defeat is out of the question. It's always a bit worrying when a trainer reaches for the head gear so early in a horse's career and Haggas applies the cheekpieces today for Toofeg. The market doesn't think that'll do the trick on what is his first run on the all-weather.
We stay Southwell for our first recommended back, where Alpine Storm has been popular in the 15:10 1m Handicap, going from 10.519/2 in to 9.417/2. With the Racing Post Nap Senor George a non-runner punters are siding with Mark Johnston's three-year-old filly. Back on a winning mark, she has been running in better races than this, so today is arguably a drop in class and her last run at Wolverhampton was encouraging. Currently available at 3.1511/5 in the place market and getting shorter, we think Alpine Storm is a great each-way bet.
We head to Doncaster for our second positive. You can probably back the team of Philip Hobbs and Dicky Johnson blind at the moment considering their stunning current form. And Cloud Creeper in the 2m3f Handicap hurdle at 15:20 has been well supported to oblige for the in-form duo, moving from 4.3100/30 in to 3.8514/5. The gelding got off the mark at the back end of last season taking a good novice hurdle over 2m3f on soft ground. Although he's been a tad disappointing since, he has been dropped 3lbs and with the money down we think the top weight can maintain the incredible run of form for the trainer/jockey axis.
