Follow The Money: A touch of Malt for a wintery Friday at Exeter

McCoy saddles Master Malt - our final back of the day

Today's Follow The Money bets run at Exeter and Lingfield...

"A gamble that contains these colours and connections needs to be taken note of, so we suggest a back of 3.259/4 on Master Malt."

Back Master Malt at 3.259/4 in the 16:20 at Exeter

We start in the 14:50 at Exeter with the David Pipe-trained Molo who has been backed from a high of 5.04/1 in to a current price of 3.185/40. This five-year-old mare is having her handicap debut today off a mark off 114 after recording two wins from four runs to date. She receives a stone from some of her main rivals - something that can be key in mares' races. Her main danger is Rosa Imperialis who won a handicap last time out by 12 lengths, but she has gone up 10lbs so potentially harshly treated. With decent money down for Molo and the trainers' form with handicap debutants we suggest a back of 3.185/40 to be the best bet of this race.

We quickly move onto our lay, which runs in the 15:00 at Lingfield. The Lady Cecil-trained Tacticus has drifted from an early price of 2.26/5 out to a current 2.6413/8. This four-year old has had four unsuccessful chances to get off the mark, all at different trips, once being sent off a 4/5 favourite. At the moment connections appear to be struggling with what to do with this colt so they have given him a break of 226 days, possibly with the hope he learns how to do his job. Today's opposition isn't great, but Symphony Of Kings' debut second was encouraging so we would expect him to cause the biggest threat to our lay.

Our second back of the day, Master Malt, has been subject of some really strong sustained support in the 16:20 at Exeter. With the champ on board, Master Malt has been backed from a high of 4.57/2 in to a current price of 3.259/4 despite carrying top weight in a competitive looking handicap. His last run was quite encouraging considering it came at a time when his trainer Jonjo O'Neil could not buy a winner. He has failed to win a race since being sent handicapping last summer and there is a question mark about the conditions being to his liking, but a gamble that contains these colours and connections needs to be taken note of, so we suggest a back of 3.259/4 on Master Malt.
