Follow The Money: Backing Steve & Martin to put a smile on our faces

It's another busy day of UK racing

Today's movers come from the meetings at Market Rasen and Wincanton.

"Market support suggests that Martin Cash could be reappearing in the winners' enclosure with the drop in trip and softer going to suit."

Back Martin Cash @ 7.26/1 in the 13:20 at Wincanton

We start the day at Market Rasen, where we find our first positive in the 13:00 2m6f Novices' Handicap Chase, where Viva Steve has received steady support in to 3.55/2 from a high of 3.9. Mick Channon's runner has managed one win and four second-places from nine starts so far, the win being over 2m½f at Sandown in March 2013 over hurdles. This gelding by Flemensfirth's form was a bit in and out after that win. However, when he returned to the track this year, over today's course and distance he showed his best form to date, finishing a two length second to Cloudy Bob. Viva Steve runs off the same mark today and could still have plenty of improvement with this being only his fourth chase start.

Heading to Wincanton for the second back in the 13:20 2m Handicap Chase, where money has just started coming for Martin Cash, in to 7.26/1 from a high of 11.010/1. This eight-year-old has only managed one win in his career so far, however this was on his first start for his current trainer, Paul Henderson, back in March this year on soft going. That race was also over today's course and distance, and since then this gelding by Oscar has ran well again finishing second here, and has performed respectably over 2m5½f at Newton Abbot in the summer, finishing third and fourth. The market support suggests that Martin Cash could be reappearing in the winners' enclosure with the drop in trip and softer going to suit.

Returning to Market Rasen for the 14:40, where we find our negative in this 2m5f Handicap Hurdle. Tom George's runner Definitely Better has drifted out to 4.216/5 from a low of 3.39/4. This six-year-old mare is on the hat-trick bid having just won at Exeter on the 4th November over 2m3f and again at Southwell on the 10th over 2m4½f. However, Definitely Better was odds-on in that race, showing that it wasn't very competitive, and she is running off 14lb higher today. This combined with the step up in class and tougher looking opposition is enough to make her opposable today.
