Today's Follow The Money comes from the meetings at Lingfield and Doncaster.
Starting the day at Lingfield where we find our lay, Lexis Hero has drifted out to 3.55/2 from 2.8415/8 in the 14:00 6f Handicap. Richard Fahey's gelding has run well of late, not finishing out of the frame in his last five starts, culminating in a win at Wolverhampton two weeks ago over 6f. However, this was only a winning margin of a head and it has resulted in a 5lb rise, which the market drift suggests may be too much for him today. Also, there has been strong support for Seek The Fair Land who has come down in the handicap and has won at this track four times.
We head to Doncaster for the 14:45 3m Handicap Chase, where there has been strong support for Honest John into 3.211/5 from a high of 4.1. This 10-year-old has done well in his career so far, notching up five wins from 26 starts, the last win being over today's course and distance just over a year ago. Steve Gollings gelding's form dipped after that win, however, he showed a return to his best on his last start back, again over today's course and distance, finishing a close third. Running off the same mark today, which is 3lb lower than his last winning mark, gives Honest John a chance to return to the winners' enclosure.
Staying at Doncaster for our second positive in the 15:50 2m3f Novice Handicap Chase, we find a noticeable move for Sole Survivor from 8.07/1 in to 5.24/1. This is Paul Webber's charge's first start over fences having run over hurdles four times. On his first hurdle start this 7-year-old gelding recorded his only success and the most recent run was a four-and-a-half length fifth over 2m4f on heavy going at Haydock last month, after returning from a two-year break. Today's race sees a drop down in class and with the market support and Denis O'Regan taking over the reins, Sole Survivor could be the last man standing today.
