Communicator and Keep Kicking both run at Newbury this afternoon

Welcome to today's Follow The Money from the meetings at Newbury, Ludlow and Lingfield...

Recommended Bets

Lay Communicator @ 2.915/8 in the 13:10 at Newbury
Back Gardefort @ 6.05/1 in the 13:20 at Ludlow
Back Keep Kicking @ 4.84/1 in the 14:00 at Lingfield

We start with the decent card at Newbury and a negative in the market of the 2m maiden hurdle that goes off at 13:10 for Communicator. Having his first run for the Jonjo O'Neill yard, who have not been in good form recently, the six year old has drifted from 2.56/4 out to 2.915/8. He ran in this race for Andrew Balding last year when a good second to Josses Hill and with that form you would have thought the market would be positive, but the backers have been talking up Timeform's Horse In Focus, The Beast Of Burden instead. Communicator's flat form gives you a reason to take him on as he has only won twice from 30 starts through not always finishing off his races so AP McCoy might have to show all his strength to see him go close.

Next we head for a positive at Ludlow in the 2m handicap chase going off at 13:20 for the Venetia Williams-trained Gardefort who has been backed in from 10.519/2 into 6.05/1. Venetia has a good record with horses coming back from a break and the five year old has been off for 251 days. She has also won this race four times in the last seven years including the last two renewals and the market is suggesting she can bring up the hat-trick. On the Timeform-adjusted ratings Gardefort has only five pounds to find on the top rated Sir Valentino, and they mark up that there should be plenty more to come for the unexposed French recruit of this very workable official mark of 124.

We end with another positive, this time on the Polytrack at Lingfield in the 2m handicap at 14:00 for Keep Kicking who has been backed from 7.26/1 in to 4.84/1. Trainer Simon Dow is in decent form with four winners in his last 17 runners including a winner yesterday in Fair Value, so that is a good starting point. The seven year old gelding has some decent course and distance form, having won twice and been in the first three a further five times in ten runs. He runs today off a mark of 64, which would see him go close anyway, but when you add in the fact that Tomas Harrigan is taking off 7lb it makes him a very attractive betting proposition.
