We start the day at Yarmouth where we find our drifter in the 15:45 1m2f Handicap. Mahican has taken a walk in the market from a low of 2.245/4 out to 3.45. Mark Johnston's three-year-old has done nothing wrong in his career so far, finishing a close second on his first start in August and winning a maiden and then a Class 4 Handicap on his most recent start. However, this race was only four days ago and was fairly uncompetitive with only three runners to beat. With today's tougher Class 3 opposition and the 6lb penalty, this Cape Cross colt may struggle to gain the hat trick. Also, the market is highly supportive of Michael Stoute's runner Altharoos, suggesting a lay is the call for Mahican.

Heading to Sandown for our first positive, we find strong support for Penitent, from a high of 3.613/5 in to 2.89/5, in the 15:55 Listed Fortune Stakes. This seven-year-old gelding has eight wins to his name, the most recent being in a Group 2 at Newmarket in September last year. Seven of those wins have been over today's trip, two at this course and three on soft or heavy going. Although he hasn't shown top form since his last win - managing two second places at best - his last run over 7f may not have suited. With today's step back up to a mile and drop in class, with conditions to suit, Penitent should be able to return to winning ways.

Staying at Sandown we find a steady mover in the 16:30 1m Handicap, where Beautiful View is now trading at 9.417/2 having been backed in from 15.76. This Dubawi filly won her maiden, in November last year, on her second start which was on soft ground, but since then has shown only average form in three races, the last being a Class 2 Handicap over 7f on good to firm ground. Today's race sees a step up to an untried trip of 1 mile, a drop in class and a return to soft going. All these positives combined with the market support makes it look good for Beautiful View to gain her second success.
