Welcome to today's Follow The Money from the meetings at Fakenham and Nottingham...
We kick off proceedings with Gale Force Oscar in the 15:00 at Fakenham, backed from 9.417/2 in to 7.06/1. The Andy Turnell-trained gelding has mostly been seen in point to points and hunter chases throughout his career - It's interesting he now switches to a handicap chase for his new trainer. The 10-year-old son of French Derby runner-up Oscar was an easy winner of a hunter chase (good to soft) last spring, but has been below his best in similar chases this year. However, his handicap mark has slipped down the weights and he looks well treated if rediscovering his form. With full aids added for today's contest - tongue-tie reapplied, and the blinkers put on, we fully expect him to be involved in the finish.
Our negative comes in the 16:00 at Fakenham in the shape of Breezy Kin. The lay was matched as short as 3.45 in the early exchanges but has taken a walk out to 4.77/2. After contesting 15 point to point races in Ireland, his form under rules has been far from convincing, pulling up on three of his six outings. When last seen at Towcester he made a number of jumping errors, perhaps his lack of respect for the smaller obstacles could also hamper his performance once again - which is why we are not surprised to see him drift in the market this morning, even though Richard Johnson takes the ride for the first time.
In what looks a fair Maiden, Freedom Rock has been subject to solid outsiders support this morning, shortening from 18.5 in to 8.88/1. The Philip McBride filly looks to improve from her debut run at Newbury in the 16:45 contest. At 33-1 she kept on for a satisfactory ninth, beaten just over six lengths, in a seven furlong, 17-runner affair; on that evidence this extra furlong should hold no problem for her and if building on that fairly encouraging introduction, she´s got a strong chance of victory.
