With the weather decimating the afternoon cards, all three of today's Follow The Money picks come from the evening meeting at Kempton...
Our first back is the Geoffrey Deacon-trained Ryedale Lass in the 17:50, who has been backed from a high of 14.013/1 in to 8.415/2. The six-year-old ran last week at Kempton wearing blinkers for the second time and ran a cracking race from the front being beaten two lengths into second by Prohibition. She arrives today 2lbs less than that run and 7lbs lower than her sole win in 2012. You could argue that today's 6f trip is on the short side for her, but recent runs in the blinkers suggest she still retains enough speed to cope. This race is highly competitive, however at the prices and the market support we feel that 8.415/2 is a very fair price.
Our next back of the day is the Conrad Allen-trained Artemis in the 19:20 who has been backed from a high of 6.411/2 in to a current price of 4.1. The filly has not got any form to date finishing 14/14 last time out. However she has been dropped in trip today along with a 3lbs drop in the weights. It is also her first time wearing a hood and backers have clearly latched onto this with her having nearly 50% of the money traded on the market. Her main market rival is the Peter Chapple-Hyam trained Female Strategy, but the lack of support for the latter suggests today may not be her day on this handicap debut mark.
Our lay of the day is the Andrew Balding-trained Alumina who runs in the 19:50. The three-year-old had been matched as low as 2.6213/8 but since that point has been on a constant drift to a current price of 3.185/40. This is the filly's second start in handicap company after finishing third at Lingfield two weeks ago off a 3lbs higher mark. She should now have enough experience after five starts and have more to come. However this is a very open and competitive field and with a price of 3.185/40 we surely want the field running for us. Her main opponent is Pay The Greek who has had some market support. He comes into this after a 165-day absence and has no decent form to date. But with a mark backers clearly feel he could be well treated. 3.185/40 is too short for a race of this type so we have to suggest the lay on the favourite.
