Today's Follow The Money comes from Ascot and Pontefract...
We start the day off at Pontefract in the 14:20 where our lay of the day Dark Reckoning has been on the drift this morning. Beaten both times on her only two starts she now trades at 2.9215/8 from 2.447/5 earlier in the day, and she could again be vulnerable to a newcomer. The Kevin Ryan-trained Charlie Croker who has a Gimcrack entry to his name looks the most interesting and the most likely and has been the one for money this morning. At the price we are happy to take on this Ann Duffield runner today.
Our first positive of the day comes over at Ascot in the 15:40 where there has been significant support for Polybius. With two wins from only four starts, an earlier price of 3.052/1 has quickly disappeared and the David Lanigan gelding now trades at 2.35/4. A decent three-and-a-half-length winner last time up at Windsor when coming from off the pace to score readily, Ted Durcan takes the ride once again and with scope for plenty of improvement we think Polybius will take all the beating today.
We move over to Pontefract's [16:05] Listed race for our second positive of the day, and Artigiano is another who has seen decent support this morning. Now trading at [4.7}, he was available at 6.86/1 earlier, and after a narrow defeat two runs back when only beaten a neck at Nottingham, Charlie Appleby's four year old colt ran much better than his finishing position suggests when a single figure drawn 12th of 28 last time out at Ascot in the Royal Hunt Cup. In a much smaller field today, Silvestre de Sousa can steer the Godolphin runner home and justify today's market support.
