Today's Follow The Money comes from the meetings at Brighton and Wolverhampton.
Our first selection is in the 14.50, 1m4f handicap at Brighton, where Roger Varian's Panettone has been backed from a high of 7.413/2 into 3.613/5. The reason backers are sweet on this four-year-old filly is that she is running off a 1lb lower mark than when winning over course and distance at a similar time of year last season. The ground is a worrying factor but the icing on the cake for backers is the fact that the Varian yard is absolutely flying with nine winners from their last 17 runners.
Our next selection, and today's lay, comes from the Wolverhampton 16.00, Division I of the 7f handicap, where Illustrious Prince has drifted from 2.93 out to 5.04/1. Declan Carroll is a trainer you should always be aware of where the market is concerned and it seems to indicate that the six-year-old son of Acclamation might struggle to follow up his recent Redcar win returning to the Polytrack. Take A Note in a first time visor has certainly been well supported in opposition.
We stay at Wolverhampton for our final move of the day in Division II of the 7f handicap at 16.30 where The Great Gabrial has been supported from 6.86/1 into 5.59/2. Ian Williams has had three winners from his last 13 runners (including The Great Gabrial last time out in a first time visor). This quirky performer does have his own thoughts about the game but connections have returned to the blinkers today and his record with headgear is three wins from seven attempts. He is drawn six which means he should be able to track the pace, a running style that has brought success.
