There's a great card at the Curragh this afternoon for Irish 1,000 Guineas day, and it's there where we find today's three Follow They Money selections...
We start at the 13:55 for the Irish 1,000 Guineas, where Jet Setting's price has been cut in from a high of [26.0] in to [16.0] since our markets opened.
Adrian Kielty's filly's last run was back at Epsom for the British renewal of this race where she finished back in ninth when perhaps she could have finished higher in the field had she not been hampered in the run in the final furlong. Prior to that she hacked up by three lengths when making all in a Group 3 trial for this race at Leopardstown back in April on heavy ground and therefore should appreciate the softer ground that's expected at the Curragh this afternoon. It's difficult to see past short price favourite Minding's exploits in the 1,000 Guineas three weeks ago but should she not turn up today Jet Setting looks more than capable of pulling off a surprise, with the places on offer the each-way wager is the call.
We head to the 14:30 next where Housesofparliament has been supported from [3.65] in to [3.1] in the Gallinule Stakes.
It would be difficult not to write a column focusing on the Curragh without picking an Aidan O'Brien selection and there's plenty to like about the chances of this one. The trainer has had eight winners in the race from the last 10 runningss and holds the top two in the market this afternoon. Housesofparliament enters the contest in solid form having been beaten by under half a length when staying on in the closing stages in a Listed event at Chester and before that was very impressive when getting off the mark in a maiden at Dundalk. More interesting is the drift on O'Brien's other selection Beacon, it's difficult to see past the trainer claiming a ninth success in this race and the market suggests that Housesofparliament could be the one to make that happen today.
The annual running of the Tattersals Gold Cup is our last port of call, which commences at 15:40, where we look to lay drifting favourite Found having seen her price shift from [1.54] to an available [1.74] since becoming available on the exchange.
While Found has been eased in the market, punters are keen to support main market rival Fascinating Rock. Found comfortably beat Fascinating Rock last time out in the Moorsbridge Stakes here earlier in the month, while that win was impressive it was evident that Fascinating Rock needed the run after a seven month absence from the race course. These two continue their duel here this afternoon and judging by the betting the punters seem keen Champion Stakes winner Fascinating Rock can get one over on Found again.
