We start off with the lay of the day from Thurles where Monbeg Rose is easy to back in the 13:10 2m6f Nov Hrd. Currently priced at 3.65 after being as low as 2.89/5, Monbeg Rose has been on the drift all morning. A difficult race to call, this four runner affair seems there for the taking for all involved, with a slight edge given to the impressive Gordon Elliot Down Royal winner Westend Star who has been improving with every run. Monbeg Rose's record shows a disappointing 9th place finish sandwiched between two wins, with the last of those coming here at Thurles in December, however, we feel Westend Star won with a bit in hand last time and will have enough in the locker to make it back-to-back successes today.

Our each-way selection is across the water in the 14:50 3m6f Handicap Chase at Catterick and it is Nail M who has seen sustained support, backed in from 7.87/1 into 5.39/2. On his second start back from an absence it appears this lightly raced 8yo has a strong chance of making an impression in this race today. A keen stayer who jumps well and has a decent place record in previous runs would suggest that Nail M is going to have a say in this race which seems a wide open 13-runner handicap. The icing on the cake for backers will be his solid form on Soft/Heavy ground with the conditions at Catterick today over this marathon trip sure to be testing.

Our final back of the day comes in the form of the bay gelding Sandford Castle in the 15:25 at Catterick. Brendan Powell's runner has been backed in from a high of 7.413/2 into 4.94/1. Well backed last time out in a maiden at Exeter, finishing third on heavy ground, it would seem that the ground conditions today would favour him once more. With room for further progress as he steps back up in trip today to 2m3f and with this coinciding with the fact he has been lightly raced, we would suggest that Sandford Castle may be crowned a winner today on his Handicap debut.
