Recommended Bets

- Back Snuker at 6.05/1 in the 12:20 Carlisle
- Back Free Expression at 3.814/5 in the 14:40 Fairyhouse
- Lay Gitane Du Berlais at 1.538/15 in the 14:50 Carlisle

We start things off today with our each-way back. Snuker has proven popular in Carlisle's opener, the 12:20 Handicap Chase over three miles and a furlong. James Ewart's gelding has been backed from a high of 9.08/1 in to 6.05/1. He can be a bit inconsistent and has been pulled up on his last two starts, however, those last two runs were after a long, tiring season and the bonus for backers today is he has been dropped a few pounds for those efforts. This tough stayer loves the mud and has a great record round here (two from four). He goes well fresh and surely should be involved at the finish, potentially staying on from a mile back, past beaten horses. If he's on a going day, which the money suggests, Snuker could be an each-way steal.

There's some excellent racing at Fairyhouse today and in the 14:40 we find our next positive mover. Gordon Elliott trains the two market leaders in the Drinmore Novice's Grade One Chase. No More Heroes is the current favourite, however, it's Elliot's so called second string that's attracting the money. J.P. McManus owned Free Expression is the best backed horse in the race. Matched as high as 5.17 he is currently trading 3.814/5 with plenty of money queuing up to back him. He was a tad unlucky on his chasing debut where he was narrowly beaten by Outlander at Punchestown, as he seemed to be hampered turning in and jockey Mark Walsh lost a stirrup at a crucial part of the race. The gelding is a Grade Two winner over hurdles and wasn't beaten far in a Grade One, so make no mistake, this is a classy animal. He faces a very stern test today and there's some well regarded horses up against him but if the money is anything to go by Free Expression could take a bit of beating this afternoon.

Our last recommended bet is a surprising drift in the 14:50 at Carlisle. Willie Mullins sends talented mare Gitane Du Berlais over to contest this mares' listed chase over a mile and a half. Backed as low as 1.384/11 she is currently trading 1.538/15. Usually this would prove a very decent price for many, being a Mullins trained Grade One winning chaser, but not today. The main reason for this drift may be that she has been turned over at odds on before, albeit over hurdles. She has got to give five pound to the field, which you would think wouldn't be an issue as she's rated nine pound superior to her rivals, but that may well end up playing a crucial role. Perhaps the fact Wicklow Brave was a bit disappointing in the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle yesterday has something to do with this drift, as well as a few other notable Mullins favourites disappointing, Faugheen the obvious candidate. The ground is going to be bottomless today which isn't ideal and there is a danger in the form of Ebony Empress. With this all in mind a lay on Gitane Du Berlais is the call with a low risk on liability.
