Today's Follow The Money comes from the meetings at Newmarket, Ascot and Wetherby...
We start at Newmarket for our lay of the day - Count Calabash runs in the 14:20 1m1f Nursery. In the win market, Count Calabash has drifted from 1.8810/11 all the way out to 4.03/1, and although the Paul Cole son Big Bad Bob is ridden by champion jockey Jim Crowley, he is giving lumps of weight away and we have concerns with how he will take the dip on the Rowley Mile. Coming in off on the back of two wins he is sure to have his fans, but we feel the play is to lay him in the place market (2TBP) at 2.47/5. The weight of money that has dragged him out from odds on suggests he needs a career performance today.
We go to Wetherby next for our each way bet in the shape of Irish Cavalier who runs in the feature race of the day, the Charlie Hall Chase over three miles at 15:20. The Rebecca Curtis flat breed chaser hasn't managed to get the better of warm favourite Cue Card yet but with the benefit of a prep run to blow away the cobwebs we feel that race fitness can be key and support early doors (23.022/1 into 17.5) suggest this is a popular thought.
We then finish out day at Ascot for our bet of the day, Saphir Du Rheu who runs in the feature race at Ascot - the 15:35 Grade 3 Handicap Chase over 2m 7f. Market support of 5.04/1 into 3.613/5 gives us confidence that the Paul Nicholls-trained and Stewart Family-owned horse is ready to fire on his season debut. Effective over both hurdles and fences, Saphir Du Rheu is well treated carrying 11-11 today and we are confident that he can make it back to back wins on season debut.
Lay Count Calabash to place @ 2.47/5 in the 14:20 @ Newmarket
