Welcome to today's Follow The Money from this afternoon's meetings at Ascot and Lingfield...
We start the day with the 13:50 2m 3f Handicap Chase at Ascot and our each-way selection Big Casino has been supported this morning in to 12.5 from a high of 16.015/1. This Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained runner has shaped much better than his form has implied on the last couple of occasions and may be a horse to side with over a much more suitable trip. The fact that this nine-year-old acts on soft ground means that this gelding may run in to the places at a nice price.
We then stay at Ascot for the 14:25 Long Walk Hurdle over 3m and our lay selection is the Paul Nicholls-trained Saphir Du Rheu who has drifted from 2.942/1 out to 3.412/5. Although plans for a chasing campaign have been shelved in the wake of last month's Hennessey fifth place, that wasn't a bad effort under a big weight. Going back to hurdles, this runner up in last season's World Hurdle has an obvious chance however he may find one too good for him again in Thistlecrack, who we feel commands maximum respect.
Finally we head to Lingfield for the 14:55 1m Conditions Stakes and the David Simcock-trained Calling Out has been supported from a high of 2.56/4 in to 2.186/5. This gelding has a had a break since he was second on his all-weather debut at Chelmsford in August and David Simcock and jockey Jim Crowley have a 25% strike rate (three from 12) when teaming up together at Lingfield. We believe that this four-year-old may be too good for his rivals today.
