Today's Follow The Money selection run at Pontefract and Gowran Park...
We start off at Pontefract were we find Gatewood who is friendless in the feature Listed race at 15:40 over a mile and a half. Matched as low as 2.77/4 he is now trading at 3.185/40. He's getting a bit long in the tooth nowadays and needs soft ground which he does not look like he will get today. His season did not start too promising either, he was beaten a long way by Telescope on similar ground to today at Newbury in May. He's by far the highest rated horse in the race but he is up against some improving types in the form of Luca Cumani-trained Connecticut and Ed Dunlop's Red Galileo. With that in mind and with the ground a major concern unless rain arrives, we recommend laying Gatewood at 3.185/40.
Our first positive of the day runs in the 16:10 Pontefract, a handicap over 2m2f. We've seen some interesting money for Jedd O'Keeffe-trained Waterclock. Backed as high as 14.5, he now trades at just 9.417/2. It wasn't long ago that this gelding was second in the 2013 Cesarewitch off a mark of 88 (he runs off 77 today). His form however has been sketchy since. His last run, where he was fourth over course and distance behind Tuscan Gold, was a bit more encouraging though and showed glimpses that a change in fortunes may be on the cards.
He re-opposes Tuscan Gold today and has the benefit of a five pound pull in the weights. Ascot Gold Cup-winning jockey Graham Lee jumps aboard and is a master at judging the pace of these marathon distances given his National Hunt experience. With this another tick in his favour we recommend backing Waterclock to get back to winning ways at an excellent price.
We move over to Gowran Park for our final recommended back. Ger Lyons saddles Brown Bee in the 1m1f Handicap at 16.15 and the filly is attracting steady support, 7.26/1 in to 6.411/2. With two relatively short-priced horses at the top of the market in the form of Social Climber and Beechmount Whisper, the move looks to be significant. She got off the mark at Clonmel early in May (the second-placed horse has come out and won since) and she has run in some pretty hot maidens last season. The pick of her form was at Navan in October where she wasn't beaten far by the well-regarded Jessica Harrington-trained Bocca Baciata and indeed she had Ribblesdale winner Curvy a long way back in 8th. If you can forgive her last run, which looks too bad to be true, this is a classy animal and a mark of 75 looks workable.
The current price of 6.411/2 could look massive come 16:17.
