Welcome to today's Follow The Money from the meetings at Newcastle, Newmarket and Brighton...
We start with our first positive of the day in the 14:10 at Newcastle. Haughmond is trading at 3.185/40 having started at an initial price of 4.216/5. This K. R. Burke-trained colt finished third in a conditions race at the Craven meeting and we feel the step up from five to six furlongs should suit. However we will be hoping for no repeat of his antics from Haydock where he was withdrawn after injuring his rider before the race, but with the trainer's impressive 27% strike rate in 2 year old races in 2015 and the market support we are recommending a back.
Next up we are off to Newmarket for another positive in the 15:35 seven furlong handicap, which is Saigon City. It has been encouragingly backed in all morning and is now trading at 4.67/2 from an initial price of 6.411/2. This five year old gelding from the in-form Luca Cumani yard ran well on its return over a mile at Ascot last month. We don't feel the drop in trip will harm his chances today and with Adam Kirby in the saddle we are confident of a good run.
Finally we head south to Brighton for our lay of the day in the 15:55. Here we are going to oppose Quest For Wonder who has drifted out to 2.915/8 from 2.568/5. This James Tate-trained filly makes her turf debut having recently finished second of three when an odds-on favourite at Southwell. That run combined with the switch from all-weather leads us to have a few doubts and with strong support for Casilia from 3.259/4 in to 2.77/4 we are happy to oppose Quest For Wonder today.
