Today's Follow The Money comes from Doncaster and Sandown...
Sir Michael Stoute's Moonlight Sonata is our lay of the day. A couple of decent runs last summer have enticed hasty backers to trade as low as 2.47/5, since when her price has reversed out to 3.02/1. With support for Brandybend, who can show more recent form, and Stoute's other runner, Reddeh, there is plenty of scope for a further drift. Lay is the call.
Meanwhile, the unraced Hope And Faith has been backed strongly from 6.86/1 in to 4.47/2 in the 16:35 Doncaster, and it looks like Jeremy Noseda has her tuned up for her debut. She is a half-sister to the useful firm ground sprinter The Gold Cheongsam, also trained by Noseda. Her main rival here would appear to be Paint The Star, who acquitted herself well to finish third on her own debut, but she's been off the track for eleven months since and the representatives of other powerful stables are very easy to back.
The last race on the Sandown card is a good ten-furlong Handicap. Favourite Jack Hobbs has been smashed in early trades but he needs to be some kind of aeroplane to justify a current price of 2.01/1 and has only won a Wolverhampton maiden so far. He makes the market for another fancy, Pallister, currently 10.09/1 but double that price earlier on. Winning twice for Mark Johnston last term, he starts this campaign for the Charlie Appleby stable.
