Trustan Times and Gilt Shadow both run at Ayr this afternoon

Today's Follow The Money selections run at Newbury and Ayr...

Recommended Bets:

Lay Ivawood @ 2.982/1 in the 14:50 at Newbury
Back Trustan Times @ 16.5 in the 15:45 at Ayr
Back Gilt Shadow @ 4.03/1 in the 16:25 at Ayr

We start with our negative. Ivawood has been uneasy at the top of the market in the Greenham, which takes place at 14:40 at Newbury. Backed as low as 2.546/4, Richard Hannon's colt is easy to lay at 2.982/1, with no great weight of money queueing up to back him. Arguably the best two year old last season, his only defeat came on soft ground on his last run. With ground sure to suit and the only question being the extra furlong we can only assume that he may need the run today. With some pretty dangerous opponents in the form of Dewhurst winner Beldardo and Aiden O'Brien's Dick Whittington, a tentative lay on Ivawood at 2.982/1 is the call.

We head north of the border for our first back of the day and the feature on Ayr's card. Trustan Times has been a popular punter choice in the Scottish National at 15:45, over the marathon 4m distance - backed in from a high of 21.020/1 into 16.5. A gallant third in this race last year, he runs today on a 2lb lower mark and has a big pull in the weights with his conqueror Al Co. With only a few moderate runs over hurdles this season, the switch to chasing and cheek pieces applied may bring out the best in Tim Easterby gelding today. In a competitive renewal we feel Trustan Times is great each-way value and he's sure to be there or thereabouts at the business end.

We stay at Ayr for our final selection and it runs in the 16:25 2m5f Handicap Hurdle. Gilt Shadow was heavily backed overnight and that has continued this morning. Matched as high as 6.611/2, the Stuart Crawford gelding is currently trading at 4.03/1. He's a classy performer on his day - only beaten 2¼ lengths by The Liquidator in Punchestown's Champion flat race in 2013 and not beaten far by the Willie Mullins-trained Sure Reef (a horse which looked top quality until injury put the brakes on his career) in a Grade 2 hurdle at Leopardtown in January last year. He hasn't really cut it as a chaser but back over the smaller obstacles and with in-form jockey Paul Townend aboard we recommend a back of Gilt Shadow at 4.03/1.
