Yarmouth Placepot: Thursday June 28

Roger Varian trains Rocky Ground in Yarmouth's opening contest

Timeform's Matt Gardner heads to Yarmouth this afternoon, where small stakes and plenty of lines are advised...

Rocky Ground’s sales price shot up from being a foal to a yearling and trainer Roger Varian’s juveniles have an excellent strike rate this season...

14:20 - Santo Prince sets the standard in the opening event, but a well-bred pair of newcomers are the two to keep on side with the market currently speaking in their favour. A Certain Romance is the third foal of an unraced mare from the family of the high-class Tiger Hill and hails from the Peter Chapple-Hyam yard, whilst Rocky Ground's sales price shot up from being a foal to a yearling and trainer Roger Varian's juveniles have an excellent strike rate this season.

14:50 - All of Yankee Storm's seven wins have been gained on the all-weather, but he has a lower turf mark to exploit and, if repeating the form of his last two starts, he is likely to go very close. Dream Catcher ran creditably on his first start for this yard at Salisbury last month and is well worth bearing in mind off what looks a fairly lenient mark.

15:20 - Charity Box and Gold Falcon have both had three starts and have each shown enough to think that they are better than 65 and 64-rated handicappers respectively. Chris Wall, trainer of Charity Box, has sent out a couple of winners in the last fortnight and his stable may be turning the corner, whilst Gold Falcon, has plenty of potential if consenting to settle in his races.

15:50 - Multi Bene put in an improved effort when second on handicap debut at Wolverhampton earlier this month and remains capable of better yet, particularly racing off the same mark this afternoon. The Stuart Williams-trained Cambridge Duchess showed ability in three maidens and did so again on her own handicap debut last month. The return to seven furlongs is sure to suit, and she makes plenty of appeal.

16:20 - Last time out winners Rough Rock and Spin Again are the two to concentrate on here, with the possibility of doubling up in a fairly competitive event definitely on the cards. Spin Again has been raised 5 lb for his latest success, but is clearly in good heart at the minute and has to be included, whilst Rough Rock is allowed to compete from the same mark as for his Newmarket win in a fair handicap, and is highly likely to have a say in the finish.

16:50 - Selecting both Silken Thoughts and Strawberrymystique ought to be enough to see us safely across the line, with the former capable of bouncing back from a below form effort last time, and Strawberrymystique open to further improvement on her turf debut.
