Wolverhampton Placepot: Friday February 13

Wolverhampton stage racing on Friday evening

Following yesterday's successful Placepot from Chelmsford, we head to Wolverhampton's evening meeting...

17:15- Optimystic arguably cost herself victory on handicap debut at Kempton by racing too freely, finishing a good second, but she can make amends in this weak-looking contest, the drop in trip likely to prove a positive. Andrew Balding's lightly-raced filly is still open to improvement and is likely to go close.

17:45- Vosne Romanee would have finished closer at Chelmsford last time had he not been caught on heels turning for home, but he shaped as if in decent form and ought to give a good account this evening. Vosne Romanee steps up significantly in trip, which does pose a slight question, so we'll also add Medieval Bishop who certainly does stay and hasn't been disgraced the last twice.

18:15- There are a few interesting, unexposed types in here, but Harry Hurricane is probably the solid option, arriving here in good form having followed up a C&D win with an even better effort to finish runner-up in a six-furlong handicap at Kempton. He ought to go well again and should be on the premises. With just two places on offer, though, we'll also include Godolphin's Middle England who is unsurprisingly superbly bred and won with any amount in hand last time. He's clearly capable of much better.

18:45- After The Sunset ran well on his debut, finishing third over C&D, and it's easy to see why such an unexposed type has been supported. Jillanar sets a fair standard, however, and shaped as if needing the run last time, so could prove tricky to beat if coming on for that pipe-opener.

19:15- John Reel has been a revelation since having his attention switched to the Flat, racking up a hat-trick, and he should be capable of completing the four-timer. John Reel showed his versatility to win over two miles last time, but the drop back in trip won't pose a problem, and another bold bid is certainly on the cards.

19:45- Trimoulet was impressive when storming clear to win over C&D and a 6-lb penalty won't be enough to prevent him going in again. Trimoulet had earlier won a handicap at Chelmsford in good style and seems to be a horse on the up at present, so he should prove far too good.

18:15- 1, 4
