Wincanton Placepot: Thursday November 20

Wincanton offers fields that are manageable, yet big enough to suggest we might get a reasonable dividend.

"We have to swerve Voix d’Eau on his first run in Britian, for all we can definitely see the argument from a betting perspective."

12:50 - This isn't an ideal Placepot race, those we're interested in generally too unexposed to say whether they're reliable. The clues are there with Aristocracy, though, in his solid-enough Flat profile and consecutive good efforts on his last two hurdles starts. He makes his handicap debut from a good mark even before considering the generous allowance he receives as a three-year-old.

13:20 - Dance Floor King is a difficult one to escape and had we not banked on the likely favourite in the first we'd have stuck with him. The two we're taking instead are the unexposed Quite By Chance and the consistent Martin Cash.

13:50 - With a couple of hurdling debutants dominating the betting there's an opportunity for a daring banker. Our choice is Frampton, who found Cheltenham too much last time but even a repeat of the form (he has better than that, too) bound to put him thereabouts in this race, irrespective of It's A Close Call's undoubted promise.

14:25 - We have to swerve Voix d'Eau on his first run in Britian, for all we can definitely see the argument from a betting perspective. Better options for the Placepot are Handazan and Taigan, both of whom ran at Aintree last month and were promising in different ways- Handazan over an inadequate trip in a good race (Garde La Victoire third), Taigan not beaten far in a better heat than this.

15:00 - It might be foolhardy to bank in such a well-contested handicap but we're going to push all in on According To Sarah, anyway. She's the only one that fits all the main criteria, including consistency which you wouldn't necessarily infer from her form figures (unlucky last time and doesn't stay three miles).

15:30 - There's no outstanding candidate in the final leg. On the one hand, Trickaway is the most interesting but he probably has his quirks. Midnight Charmer wouldn't be as potentially well-handicapped, though his profile is far more consistent. As we've been fairly frugal up to now, we can take both.
