Racing comes from Wincanton today

Wincanton survived it's morning inspection and we head there in search of the Placepot...

"Brick Red is all speed and will benefit for a return to two miles..."

13:40 - It's an informative novice hurdle up first in which potentially smart novice Vieux Lion Rouge picks himself amongst what could prove to be inferior opposition. He won over C&D earlier this month and can win again on his way to better things. The other to get the nod is Civil War who was a fairly useful performer on the flat and shaped well on his hurdling debut at Plumpton last time out.

14:10 - It might be best to side with a pair of handicap debutants in the two-and-a-half mile contest which follows; the first of those is Shantou Magic who was an impressive winner of his first two starts over hurdles. He came up short in Grade 1 company at Newbury in last time but travelled well for a long way; the drop back in trip should suit and a bold bid is expected. Ainsi Fideles is the other to keep on side; he looked set to win at Sedgefield before falling in November and now cheekpieces have been added looks capable of bouncing back.

14:40 - The 21-furlong handicap chase which follows features 2013 Byrne Group Plate winner Carrickboy, but its better to side with Benny's Mist, who won twice over fences last season and looked back to his best when winning over C&D last time. He has to shoulder a 6 lb rise for that victory but he's still a leading contender. The other who looks set to run well is Ultragold for the Tizzard team, who has ran well when making the frame at Exeter and Lingfield on his last two starts, shaping as if his turn isn't far away.

15:10 - Keshi Pearl should be far more at ease back in this weaker company and looks to have found a good opportunity to record her second success over hurdles in this contest for mares. She was a fairly useful bumper performer and confirmed that impression over timber at Warwick in November, but struggled in listed company at Haydock last time and this looks well within her compass.

15:40 - Despite their only being four runners for this novices' handicap chase, it could be a closely fought contest with Tresor de Bontee improving for the switch to fences and in receipt of weight. However Brick Red is all speed and will benefit for a return to two miles, struggling over further at Nebwury last time. He should give good account and it would be no surprise to see him notch up his second victory over fences.

16:10 - A sole selection will have to suffice in the final leg of today's perm,  a hunter chase in which Coombe Hill looks to be the pick. He ran well behind Rumbavu on his point return, has already won over C&D and has less questions to answer than most. Richard's Sundance is a threat if coming on for his last run but the selection is sure to give his running and could surprise a few.
