We head to Warwick's opening flat meeting of the season for Thursday's suggested perm...
"It might be better to side with the well-bred newcomer Notnowcato who is a half-brother to Glorious Goodwood winner Thistle Bird and whose yard have a good record with newcomers..."
14:10 - We kick off proceedings this afternoon with a six-furlong maiden in which Touzr looks like one to keep on side. He ran very green on his debut in Sandown maiden and was narrowly denied next time at Lingfield in February; he should now have the requisite experience to match his ability and holds strong claims. The other pick is Garraun, who showed signs of promise when second in a Kempton maiden in December and seems likely to improve with the first-time hood another positive.
14:40 - The six-furlong handicap which follows looks a relatively open contest, and the first to get the nod is Apricot Sky, who arrives here as easily the least exposed sprinter in the line-up. His pedigree suggests he'll do better as a four-year-old and he's shown promise in this sphere with a fifth at Goodwood in September. The other to make the cut is Rigoletto who's a previous C&D winner and has been in consistently good form of late.
15:10 - A sole selection will suffice on the most valuable contest on today's card, another six-furlong conditions contest in which Music Master has the all the hallmarks of a sprinter to follow this season and should kick-off his campaign with a winning start.
15:40 - In truth Voyageofdiscovery had the look of a winner in waiting when just touched off at Lingfield last time, but he looks short enough and it might be better to side with the well-bred newcomer Old Guard in this seven-furlong maiden. He's a half-brother to Nassau Stakes runner-up Thistle Bird and his yard have a good record with newcomers. The other selection is Crafty Exit, whose a half-brother to three winners by exciting second-season sire Mastercraftsman. He showed definite signs of ability on his Newmarket debut last August and should have improved over the winter.
16:10 - It's another seven-furlong maiden up next and the first to get the nod is Potentate who has shown plenty when runner-up on both his career starts at Kempton and has a strong chance of making a winning return against today's field. The other to keep on side is Captain Bob, who put in some useful efforts in maidens before being hampered in a valuable sales race at Doncaster on his last start. Frankie Dettori rides in what is an eye-catching booking and he should be right on the mix if able to give his running.
16:40 - Presuming our perm is still intact at this point we must pin all our hopes in on a sole selection in the final leg, another handicap over a mile. The pick is is Exclusive Waters, who landed a Southwell handicap in decisive fashion of just a 4 lb lower mark and will be tough to beat if able to reproduce that level of form on turf.
