Timeform's Matt Gardner tackles the Placepot at Uttoxeter on the final day of 2013...
"Flicka Williams was out of his depth in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham earlier this month but there was plenty to like about his progress in handicaps prior to that..."
12:40 - The opening contest should prove to be a pretty straightforward assignment for 2011 Champion Bumper winner Cheltenian, who was last seen contesting the Supreme Novices' Hurdle in March. He was essentially caught out for experience on just his second start over hurdles that day, understandably finding the environment far too competitive, but he is expected to get back on track here.
13:10 - Come On Annie is lightly-raced for one her age and there was a lot to like about her reappearance over C&D earlier this month. She hasn't been with this yard, who do well with similar types, all that long and she could yet have a bit more to offer in handicaps.
13:40 - Lord Of House took advantage of a lower chase mark when gaining his first win over the larger obstacles at Wincanton on Boxing Day, and he is most likely to go well again racing under a 7 lb penalty. It's also worth including Tresor de Bontee, who was successful on two of his last three starts over hurdles and appeals as the type to do better now sent chasing.
14:10 - Flicka Williams was out of his depth in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham earlier this month but there was plenty to like about his progress in handicaps prior to that, and there is every chance that he can get back on track now. Oscatara is potentially well handicapped, assuming all is well on return from a lengthy absence, but preference is for Quick Decisson, who ought to come on for his Haydock reappearance, as an insurance policy.
14:40 - A couple of these make some appeal but this looks a good opportunity for Massena, who finished a decent second at Newbury last time, to get off the mark over fences.
15:10 - Goodacres Garden is quite a lazy sort but is very much the type to be suited by this step up in trip, so he is well worth a chance to confirm the promise of his third on handicap debut. Ternthetohercheek is another that appeals as being the type to relish this test of stamina, so he goes in as our second selection.
