A preview of all seven races at Taunton on Thursday.
"This will be the weakest race he's contested in a while and, back on his last winning mark, has plenty in his favour."
12:40 - This isn't a strong race and Ice Tres caught the eye in a much better contest over C&D last time. This will be the weakest race he's contested in a while and, back on his last winning mark, has plenty in his favour.
13:10 - Novices at Taunton tend to be above-average and this is no exception. Even so, Mister Miyagi stands out having beaten a good prospect at Cheltenham last month. He should follow up under a penalty, though there doesn't seem much point in steaming in at odds-on.
13:45 - It's easy to see why Fountains Blosson is so popular, a dual bumper making his handicap debut from a mark of 100 for a yard that has pulled similar stunts before. At the prices we'd probably prefer penalty-carrier Knight of The Realm, who won just as strong a race four days ago, but there isn't much in it.
14:20 - This is competitive, too competitive to be risking Saint Roque after and absence of 19 months. Point winner Royalraise is the most interesting of the chasing newcomers, though the value could lie with By The Boardwalk, who took off over fences in the early months of the season and has had excuses on his last couple of starts. Returning to an easy 23 furlongs should help.
14:55 - Dazinski's on a hat-trick and obviously commands respect, though we'd be just as interested in Proofreader. A handicap debutant for Neil Mulholland comes with its own recommendation, though there's additional reason to believe that today is the day we see more from him. Hard pulling was his problem in novices, and therefore a big-field handicap at a tight track appeals as the ideal race for him to remedy that.
15:25 - For a seven-runner race in which the top-weight runs off 88 this is stronger than might be thought, which is to say there's more than one interesting horse. Both Dawnieriver and Double Chocolate would be warm orders for this race but for the other. Narrow preference is for the first-named, but if you're a forecast punter this could be the race for you.
16:00 - This is the second division of the race that starts the card and, like that contest, it's pretty much what you'd expect of a 0-100. The two exceptions are Lake Chapala, who starts out for the Tim Vaughan yard with his stable showing better signs, and another Honeyball-trained handicap debutant, Double Accord. Both are prominent in the betting and there doesn't look to be much juice in the prices, though Lake Chapala's entries are a statement of intent and he'd be the preferred option.
