Jumps action at Southwell provides the best opportunity to scoop the Placepot on Wednesday...
"Floral Spinner makes the cut due to her admirably consistent record. After winning a bumper on her racecourse bow she has made the frame no fewer than six times over hurdles..."
12:50 - We kick off proceedings with a staying handicap chase over 26 furlongs in which Emma Soda looks to have an excellent chance. The former point winner sprang somewhat of a surprise when reeling in a next-time-out winner in the mud at Warwick in March, and was back to form last month at Carlisle. Conditions will suit and a bold bid is expected; the other to get the nod is Badgers Cove, who looks well treated on the pick of his form if able to smarten up his jumping from Towcester.
13:20 - A single selection will have to suffice in the two-mile handicap chase which follows and Stormhoek ran well enough on his return from a lengthy absence to suggest he retains a good deal of his ability. The conditional jockey who rode him on that occasion is replaced by man-of-the moment Sam Twiston-Davies, fresh from a treble at Leicester yesterday and he should get a good enough tune out of him to figure in proceedings.
13:50 - The third leg of today's perm is a novice hurdle over the minimum trip and there are a number of interesting contenders due to line up. Long Lunch was tried in Grade 2 company last time and was still in contention when falling; this company is clearly less taxing and he looks likely to come off best. The other selection is Anay Turge who should bounce back after a break and if he can replicate some of the form he's shown over fences he holds strong claims.
14:20 - Don Pooleoni is on something of a recovery mission after falling at Warwick last time but goes in the conditions and looks well handicapped on the pick of his form. He remains one to keep on side and is the first pick in this handicap hurdle, the other who looks sure to figure is Santo Thomas who built on his reappearance when runner-up at Ffos Las last month. He disappointed slightly at Leicester recently but is taken to bounce back here.
14:55 - It's a mares' maiden hurdle up next and only one makes the cut in the shape of Floral Spinner due to her admirably consistent record. After winning a bumper on her racecourse bow she has made the frame no fewer than six times over hurdles, and there's every reason to expect she'll be thereabouts again.
15:25 - The maiden hurdle which constitutes the last leg of today's perm looks a competitive one for the grade but to keep lines down to an affordable minimum we will stay with a sole pick here aswell. That comes in the shape of Seedling who is a dual bumper winner and left a disappointing hurdle bow well behind him when a close second to Wilde Blue Yonder at Newbury. There are promising contenders in the shape of Paradise Valley and Truckers Steel but Charles Egerton's charge is expected to figure.
