There's a good card at Southwell this afternoon and that is where we head for Tuesday's attempt at the Placepot...
Excelling Oscar wasn't seen to best effect here over a mile on his penultimate start, the emphasis on stamina not suiting, but he soon bounced back to win over this trip...
13:15- Last-time-out winner Queen of Skies has understandably been popular, but she's probably not so well treated as Pat's Legacy, and it is Marjorie Fife's runner that we will include. Pat's Legacy looked likely to win for much of the race last time, but he paid the price for doing too much too soon, reeled in close home. He's relatively unexposed on this surface and could prove to be well handicapped. We will also include four-time course winner Amenable as he has stormed back from a spell in the doldrums, twice finishing placed here before winning recently, and he looks likely to give a good account.
13:45- Eium Mac's form has taken off since switched to the fibresand and he can bounce back to winning ways having been nabbed close home last week. Eium Mac arguably ran his best race yet when finishing runner-up last time, and he's actually able to compete from a lower mark here. His claims are obvious and he should go close.
14:15- Excelling Oscar is clearly well suited by this surface and looks to hold strong claims of racking up a third fibresand win. Excelling Oscar wasn't seen to best effect here over a mile on his penultimate start, the emphasis on stamina not suiting, but he soon bounced back to win over this trip, travelling smoothly and keeping on strongly to win well. He is still on a fair mark and ought to be on the premises.
14:50- Likely favourite Seychelloise sets the standard but it's not an especially taxing one, and there could be some mileage in opposing her. The first horse that we will turn to is Kevin Ryan's unexposed filly Bacall. Bacall failed to beat a rival on debut at Thirsk last May, but she did offer a bit of encouragement and a better effort is expected. We will also include the James Tate-trained Jaiyana. Jaiyana boasts a decent pedigree and she improved on her debut effort when finishing fourth at Wolverhampton last time. She didn't look the finished article on that occasion so further progress is on the cards.
15:25- Oriental Relation went through a lean spell towards the end of last year, but his mark fell as a consequence and a good second here recently suggests he's back operating at the top of his game. Oriental Relation showed blinding early speed over six furlongs last time and looks likely to benefit from the drop back to this kind of trip. Hat-trick seeking Extreme Surprise has a higher mark and better rivals to deal with, but, as an unexposed, improving sprinter who relishes the surface, his claims are obvious and he makes the permutation.
16:00- Fairly useful hurdler Canadian Diamond made the most of a low Flat mark when scoring on fibresand debut here in December, and a 5 lb rise for that win looks by no means prohibitive. He's still potentially well treated on the Flat based on the level of form that he's shown over hurdles and, with his effectiveness on the fibresand assured, he looks banker material to finish in the first three.
