With small fields dominating at Fontwell, we'll head to Southwell for Sunday's attempt at the Placepot...
14:00- Mr McGregor is a dual Point winner who improved as expected when tackling fences under Rules for the first time at Taunton recently, finishing a good runner-up having jumped well in the main, and he remains open to improvement in this sphere. He's joined in the Placepot by Finish The Story, as he was a prolific winner during the summer and got back on the right track when finishing fifth, behind Mr McGregor, at Taunton. He's entitled to come on for that effort and should be on the premises.
14:30- Russborough finished a good second in a stronger race than this last time, so makes obvious appeal. He's yet to win, but has produced a number of good efforts and remains relatively unexposed compared to today's rivals. He looks banker material in the Placepot.
15:00- Zip Top is clearly the one to beat, but Burtons Well boasts a useful pedigree and ran out an impressive winner, despite being weak in the market, when taking a Newton Abbot novice in October. He's clearly an exciting prospect and is worth siding with this afternoon.
15:30- El Dancer showed that he's still capable of showing a useful level of form when finishing runner-up at Ludlow and Sandown, and he's likely to give another good account, despite having crept up the handicap. He's joined in the Placepot by the progressive Spookydooky as he won in good style at Doncaster last time and should have plenty more still to offer over this kind of trip.
16:00- Gilzean got firmly back on the right track when justifying support to score at Lingfield on Monday, winning in facile fashion, and he looks sure to go close if producing a similar kind of performance here. With so many rivals arriving badly out of form, it's difficult to oppose Gilzean.
16:30- Mr Lando could take this field apart if on a going day, but he's been out of sorts recently so could be worth taking on from a Placepot perspective, acknowledging that he's the most likely winner. There aren't any solid types to oppose him with, but both Air Chief and Another Tipple could make an impact. Air Chief is capable on these terms if in the mood, while Another Tipple has seemingly been harshly treated by the handicapper but is relatively unexposed, so could yet do better.
