There's a national hunt meeting at Southwell and that is where we head for Sunday's attempt at the Placepot...
It looked as if Eastern Witness would benefit from a stiffer test of stamina when finishing third at Ludlow, and, upped in trip on testing ground, he should relish today's test...
12:05- Trojan Sun's latest win was achieved from a 2 lb higher mark, so he is clearly weighted to strike, and his latest run at Wincanton is excusable due to the severity of an early blunder. He should go close if putting in a clear round. We'll also include Tafika in the permutation as he finished placed at Sandown when last seen in action, and a repeat of that kind of effort could see him on the premises in this weak-looking contest.
12:35- Debt to Society was in fine form over hurdles during the season and he showed that he's well weighted over fences when winning a race at Sedgefield that was subsequently declared void. Debt To Society is allowed to race off the same mark and has to be considered. We will bank on him.
13:10- Celtic Agent achieved a fairly useful level in bumpers and he showed some aptitude for hurdling when finishing fifth at Wetherby. He was easy to back on that occasion and ought to improve significantly with the benefit of that run under his belt, so we will bank on him laying down a stern challenge to likely favourite Veripek.
13:45- Neil King has his string in fine form at the moment and his representative Delgany Demon looks to have outstanding claims in the staying novices' hurdle. Delgany Demon showed ability in bumpers and has shaped as if a stiff test of stamina will see him to best effect. He can show his staying credentials and prove a class above his rivals.
14:15- Just three are set to go to post and winning is essential to progress in the Placepot, so it makes sense to include all three and hope that the outsider of the trio can do us a favour. If pressed for one selection, likely favourite Faerie Reel has the look of an improver and is the most likely winner, but there's little point in taking a chance.
14:45- The withdrawal of hat-trick seeking Bredon Hill Lad has left Eastern Witness with a good opportunity to build on a promising performance at Ludlow. It looked as if Eastern Witness would benefit from a stiffer test of stamina when finishing third at Ludlow, and, upped in trip on testing ground, he should relish today's test.
