Sandown Placepot: Friday August 30

John Gosden has plenty of good chances at Sandown

The best of Friday's action comes from Sandown and that is where we head for today's Placepot attempt...

Breden possesses a good attitude and is progressing with racing, winning a strong Newmarket handicap in tenacious fashion last time...

14:20 - Godolphin's Strategical took advantage of a simple opportunity at Wolverhampton last time, but the form of his earlier win at Yarmouth has worked out well and he would have registered as banker material in the opening contest had all five stood their ground. However, a non-runner means that we must select the winner to progress and we will, therefore, also add Foxy Clarets who is well treated following a good effort at York last week.

14:50 - Things get a bit trickier in this competitive five-furlong handicap but the one that instantly catches the eye is Ryan Moore's mount, Angel Way. Angel Way has shown improved form since dropping back to the minimum trip, scoring in good style at Newmarket last time, and he has been granted an advantageous low draw. Another well-drawn and in-form contender worth considering is Wooden King. Wooden King bounced back to form at Ffos Las earlier in the month and proved that he was still in good heart by finishing second at Goodwood on Sunday. He remains well treated on his own form and looks sure to give a good account.

15:20 - There are plenty of well-bred and expensively-purchased newcomers on show in this maiden and making it through to the fourth leg could be tricky. Saeed Bin Suroor's horses rarely lack for fitness on debut and Flag War, a half-brother to several winners, makes plenty of appeal on paper, enough to warrant inclusion in the Placepot. Irish Tears was well held on debut at Newmarket but he was simply too green to do himself justice and is entitled to progress significantly from the run, particularly with his powerful yard continuing to fire in the winners.

15:55 - Breden and Enobled could both prove to be well ahead of their marks and make the most appeal in a strong handicap. Both horses hail from the top yards and boast good pedigrees; it would be little surprise were they to eventually make an impact outside of handicap company. Breden possesses a good attitude and is progressing with racing, winning a strong Newmarket handicap in tenacious fashion last time, while Enobled needs to bounce back from a poor showing at Haydock but created a fantastic impression when winning his maiden and remains a good prospect.

16:25 - Toast of The Town found less than seemed likely at Newmarket last time but the drop in trip should be to her advantage and she can finally break her maiden following some good efforts behind some useful prospects. She holds extremely solid claims and it would be surprising were she beaten.

17:00 - Alegra is open to plenty of improvement and has to be respected following such an impressive maiden success at Thirsk. There is likely to be a lot of lines riding on her, however, and there are some interesting rivals in opposition so we will take her on in the hope of a result. Legends belatedly built on his debut promise when finishing third at Kempton last time and is extremely interesting on his handicap bow. The return to ten furlongs is likely to be in the favour of Legends and he can go well. Close At Hand looked slightly awkward at Goodwood last time but has probably just about achieved the most of these and could be underestimated.
