Heavy ground is a surprise at Musselburgh; it isn't at Plumpton, where we travel instead for the Placepot...
"Tealissio... has run well on both starts under suitable conditions this winter and performed better than unflattering odds suggested in a jumpers’ bumper last time."
14:05 - Civil War is an obvious banker in leg one. He's been keeping better company than this on his two hurdles starts so far, achieving a fairly useful level of form even so. Though a beaten favourite in a jumpers' bumper last time, the sort of form he achieved would still be good enough to go close in this race.
14:35 - Baby Shine's far greater experience over fences gives her a clear advantage in this match for Placepot purposes. However, she'd struggled to give She Ranks Me the best part of a stone over hurdles, so putting both in is the only real option.
15:10 - Dungeness is probably the best option, but that's not saying much in this contest and given the amount of the pool he's likely to carry makes less appeal than Tealissio. The selection has run well on both starts under suitable conditions this winter and performed better than unflattering odds suggested in a jumpers' bumper last time.
15:40 - We're going to take a chance in this four-runner handicap. Present To You is a cut above the rest, which is admittedly reflected in the weights carried but doesn't allow for the greater consistency that comes with a higher level of form. He can admittedly shirk a battle, but as the only confirmed front-runner in this field he may not face one.
16:10 - Another chancy selection, but if Royaume Bleu is able to bring his chase form back over hurdles he'll be difficult to stop from a lower mark. As a strong-staying front runner, there aren't many reasons why he oughtn't get the chance to prove himself today.
16:40 - You'd be right not to expect any cast-iron Placepot sorts in a low-grade mares' handicap hurdle. The next best thing is a potentially well-treated handicap debutante. Oscar's Pet is far from exposed, especially granted more of a test of stamina, and makes appeal here so long as she does better on soft ground than she managed on heavy last time.
