Nottingham Placepot: Tuesday May 20

Tuesday's Placepot comes from Nottingham
Tuesday's Placepot comes from Nottingham

A relatively interesting card at Nottingham gets our patronage on Tuesday.

"The form of Lacan’s debut second over today’s C&D is already working out... while he looked professional enough to suggest that experience won’t be a problem on this second start."

14:00 - With just seven runners remaining and Godolphin newcomer Final Decision making Dr No's path to second place more complicated, we've little choice but to go with the odds-on favourite and likely winner. Aktabantay made a big impression when just failing to reel in another well-bred Godolphin charge at Newmarket on debut. Six furlongs will suit this expensive purchase and he's probably bound for better things.

14:30 - Unless taking another favourite (God Club, an obvious eye-catcher last time) we can't really hope to get through this sprint handicap for three-year-olds cheaply. The unbeaten Red Primo could well have been let in lightly off 73 and gets first slot. Two Shades of Grey counteracts his relative lack of experience and has himself given the impression that he hasn't reached his peak just yet. Two Shades of Grey also has experience in the conditions and the assistance of the bang-in-form Ryan Moore.

15:00 - Sir Frank Morgan has been consistently threatening to win of late and would make a strong selection, though his prohibitive odds point to him carrying an inordinate proportion of the pool. Better to take the consistent Poitin and the interesting Pearl Spice. The second-named in particular appeals after a promising reappearance which ought to bring him on, especially now he's back up in trip.

15:30 - If we can bank on all eight starting in this fillies' handicap we can bank on Thurayaat. There are several other interesting contenders, though experience and form are with Thurayaat, making her a natural Placepot option. She's also a confirmed front runner and proven in terms of stamina, suggesting she may get the lead here.

16:00 - The form of Lacan's debut second over today's C&D is already working out, the third having won since, while he looked professional enough to suggest that experience won't be a problem on this second start. Hopefully he'll get to make the running again, as this is quite a competitive maiden.

16:30 - Leg six is our second 'cheat' of the day. Like leg one, lack of clear-cut options in behind make warm favourite Rainbow Rock irresistible in this minor event. He won't have a problem with a mile plus this year and early money suggests fitness won't be an issue either. His debut fifth in a race that contained Outstrip, True Story and Sudden Wonder reads especially well.
