Some better-than-average races for the time of year and manageable field sizes make Newton Abbot a realistic Placepot aim.
"Winged Express stands out in a low-grade field, especially allowed to run off the same mark as at Southwell a week ago."
17:30 - At first glance, Miss Serious and One Big Love are difficult to split so we should logically plump for favourite Peggy Do. However, on inspection the unpenalised One Big Love has a lot more going for her, assuming we can take her second (clear of the rest) to West Wizard last time as a true reflection of her ability.
18:00 - Though there are plenty of clues that Handsome Horace could be a fairly useful staying chaser in the making, the evidence is harder in the case of Clubs Are Trumps. He won twice over fences earlier in the spring and remains unexposed, finding only a well-handicapped rival too good at Chepstow last time and proving his stamina for the trip into the bargain.
18:30 - In an eight-runner race that contains few you'd have total faith in, My Legal Lady makes sense as a Placepot selection. She had been running consistently well prior to coming unstuck in a good race at Cheltenham last month and we see no reason why she can't recapture her good form back in more suitable company.
19:00 - In a race that lacks in the type we'd consider, Sergeant Dick goes in as a banker almost by default. He has been in good form recently, bar being wiped out early on in the Aintree Fox Hunters', and shouldn't have too much competition for the lead, only Bang On Time offering any opposition on that score.
19:30 - Winged Express stands out in a low-grade field, especially allowed to run off the same mark as at Southwell a week ago. The risk of taking one after such a short turnaround is more than drowned out by the alternatives.
20:00 - We finish on a bumper and there isn't an obvious banker in the field. Bleu Et Noir is easily the strongest option on previous form, though we'll back him up with Never Learn, who has the pedigree and connections to suggest he'll do well in bumpers.
