A deep and strong card at Newmarket gets our attention for the Placepot on Wednesday.
"Though Knife Edge has seen his maiden win boosted since, we prefer the more experienced Storm Rising, whose profile suggests he should go on improving."
13:30 - Farandine is probably a worthy favourite, though at such a short price and assuming she'll need a mile to show her full worth we can look elsewhere. We needn't go far; second-favourite White Poppy looked very green on debut, though that's not unusual for an Andrew Balding horse and she achieved enough to think she'll be up to going close here if making the expected improvement.
14:00 - We'll need two to get through this nursery. Motdaw is a good place to start, showing more by the run in maidens and shaping well on her first try in this sort of race last time. She'll also benefit from the greater emphasis on stamina. Second selection Secret Ambition has plenty of experience, but improved to win a similar event last time and has gone up just 3 lb for that.
14:35 - Timeform took a very positive view of the minor event that Gifted Master won over this C&D before he took the Autumn Stakes. Fourth in that race was Tigerwolf, who duly sets a high standard in the first division of this maiden and therefore deserves to be every bit as short as he is.
15:10 - Again, it's the favourite that we have to side with here. Mootaharer shaped very well at Salisbury on his debut and though he mightn't have been as short had half-brother Muhaarar not sealed his legend at the weekend, he still represents a better proposition than the well-connected debutants like Symbolic and Poet's Word.
15:45 - Though Knife Edge has seen his maiden win boosted since, we prefer the more experienced Storm Rising, whose profile suggests he should go on improving. This is a competitive race, but he's surely odds-on to make the first two.
16:20 - The debutants in this final leg hold much more promise on paper than those with experience have shown on the track, so this is difficult. One of the Godolphin pair of Prize Money and Generalship is bound to be thereabouts, so we'll take both.
