There's a good-quality card at Newmarket and that is where we head for Thursday's attempt at the Placepot.
"Gale Force has a bit to find on the form book, but she boasts a progressive profile, arrives on the back of a smooth win and looks worth her place in this company."
14:00- Linguistic made a promising start to his career when chasing home an exciting prospect at Doncaster, and he ought to prove difficult to beat here if improving as anticipated. He's sure to command a huge proportion of the Placepot pool, however, so we'll also add Hugo Palmer's newcomer Mengli Khan as he boasts a smart pedigree and hails from a yard capable of getting them ready first time.
14:35- Theydon Grey may have been sent off at a BSP of 1000 on debut in a strong-looking Newmarket maiden, but he shaped with plenty of promise in finishing fifth and he duly built on that when scoring at Chelmsford last time, winning with a bit in hand. He is clearly a talented horse and shouldn't be underestimated. It's also worth including Bathos as he has progressed well, racking up a hat-trick, and he looks sure to give another good account in search of the four-timer.
15:10- Queen's Pearl failed to make an impression in a listed race at Pontefract last time, but things didn't pan out ideally on that occasion, her hold-up style a disadvantage in a race dominated by the pace-setters, and she can bounce back in handicap company, mindful of how progressive she had previously appeared. This is quite a competitive contest, though, so we will also add Wordcraft to the permutation as she has been successful or placed on all six racecourse appearances, and the drop back to six furlongs shouldn't be an inconvenience.
15:40- Sanus Per Aquam was beaten by a decent prospect when failing to complete the hat-trick at Leopardstown in July, and he was slightly below his best back at the same course last time when pulling too hard over a mile, but he looks to have plenty in his favour this afternoon and can bounce back to winning ways. With three places on offer, we will bank on Sanus Per Aquam going close under what appears to be optimum conditions.
16:15- Gale Force has a bit to find on the form book, but she boasts a progressive profile, arrives on the back of a smooth win and looks worth her place in this company. Gale Force appears to be blessed with plenty of stamina, successful on both attempts at two miles, and she will have no problem with conditions should the ground ride on the slow side.
16:50- Not Never failed to produce his best when finishing seventh in the Mallard at Doncaster last time, but he'd created such a positive impression at York on his previous outing that he deserves another chance. Not Never showed a cracking attitude at York, refusing to wilt despite setting a good pace, and will be on the premises if back in similar heart. All eyes will be on Peterhof as the returning Ryan Moore takes the ride, and he looks to hold strong claims, potentially better than we've seen so far. Peterhof clocked an impressive sectional when winning on debut and, whilst he's been beaten on three starts since, the fact he's attracted such good market support suggests that better is expected at some point.
