Newcastle is the only jumps card without a dreaded four-runner race, so it gets our Placepot attention on Friday.
"The upturn in fortunes of the McCain and Candlish yards in recent weeks are at least in part behind the selection of Lively Baron and Beauboreen in this leg."
13:50 - Squiggle-horse and recent course winner Amore Mio might as well have a target on his back for the Placepot. The difficulty is that this is a low-grade handicap and few of the rest are truly reliable. Purple Harry hasn't had enough chance to show us he's unreliable and is totally unexposed, so he makes most sense as an alternative. In terms of consistency, Whichwaytobougie is about as close as we're going to get, so he gets in too.
14:20 - With so few we can rely upon in this low-grade handicap chase, a banker on Present Lodger is the sensible option, especially if it remains an eight-runner race.
14:55 - With Luccombe Down a hurdling debutant and Make It Happen dropped in trip for his third start, Doctor Phoenix becomes our only real choice. He'll definitely be in the three if he can repeat his run last time, clear with a good prospect at Ludlow.
15:25 - The upturn in fortunes of the McCain and Candlish yards in recent weeks are at least in part behind the selection of Lively Baron and Beauboreen in this leg. The second-named is the stronger option.
16:00 - Though Whatdoesthefoxsay is more solid, only one other threatens Jennys Melody as the next-best, so we'll take her in the hope of a blip from the favourite.
16:30 - In another race that lacks depth, Deny is a solid option for the first three. He could have gone up more for his win last time and is fairly consistent at a modest level.
