Jackpot riches are on offer at Newcastle on Friday, with around £300k rolling over...

"With such a good record on softer ground and her form assured after a convincing win at Ripon last time, Rosairlie is our first choice in this staying handicap."

If you've come this far, you're at least owed the truth: this is going to be a fiendishly difficult card to negotiate, one which demands either a huge perm or otherwise a speculative, sub-£20 effort. We're going for the latter.

14:10 - A two-year-old maiden with no quantifiable form on offer. Obviously. We're reduced to relying on pedigrees and early market vibes. Sandgate gets through on the first point, Dragon King on the second. We could easily go out here, but we'd rather throw lines at later events when we'll have more to go on.

14:40 - In one way it's something of a surprise that Wilde Inspiration is in a maiden- he all but proved he's up to winning handicaps when finishing an unlucky second off 72 last time. That's the best form on offer in this contest and there's not far off an evens chance that will remain the case come 14:45, so Wilde Inspiration goes in alone. It's one of our few realistic chances to bank.

15:15 - This is quite competitive for a 0-60. For that reason the solid Kathlatino, an unlucky second over C&D last time, has to go in beside the more speculative Rainford Glory. A new recruit to the Fahey yard and a winner from this mark on the all-weather over the winter, Rainford Glory makes plenty of appeal so long as Fahey can perform his usual trick of drawing improvement straight away.

15:50 - With such a good record on softer ground and her form assured after a convincing win at Ripon last time, Rosairlie is our first choice in this staying handicap. Similarly, Mr Snoozy has been in good heart for all he's not won this year. He's not as exposed as that makes him sound either, as he's generally shaped better than the result on his three runs in 2014.

16:25 - Though they dominate the betting and- by projection- the lines that will remain, Thatchereen and Coin Broker are too interesting to ignore. Thatchereen, another unlucky loser last time, would be our first choice, though only because of the greater improvement Coin Broker has to find on her handicap debut.

17:00 - The final leg doesn't offer us much of a let-up, this mile handicap hard to narrow down beyond a handful. Ofelia is the one we discount with most reluctance, Winter Picnic and Vosne Romanee the two that go ahead of her. The trip ought to suit both, Vosne Romanee having travelled strongly over further and Winter Picnic bred to benefit from this return to a mile.

14:10 - 2, 3
14:40 - 8
15:15 - 6, 7
15:50 - 3, 4
16:25 - 6, 7
17:00 - 2, 5
