Ludlow is the venue of today's attempt at the Placepot...
It is difficult to ignore the claims of August Hill as she is unpenalised for a comfortable win at Wincanton last Sunday where she was suited by the application of a hood and the combination of a strong pace and a sound surface...
13:55- Call The Cops was only narrowly denied at Chepstow last month, beating a short head by the promising Fayette County, and the Nicky Henderson-trained five-year-old sets a formidable standard for his rivals to aim at. Banking in seven-runner races is rarely advisable, though the claims held by Call The Cops are rock-solid and he really ought to win.
14:25- Spoil Me isn't the most fluent of jumpers, his premature departure at Taunton last time an obvious example of his jumping deficiencies, but he retains a bit of potential from this kind of mark and there is usually less emphasis on jumping at Ludlow than many other courses. He is clearly no banker, though, so it is also worth including Another Flutter who has finished in the frame on all six starts over fences for his current yard.
15:00- Talkonthestreet is gradually getting the hang of chasing and is likely to make a bold bid to supplement his Stratford win. He has proven to be a slow learner in this sphere, often jumping poorly, but his Stratford win was his best effort yet and he remains capable of better. This is a fairly competitive race, though, so we will also add the consistent Gambo to the perm as he was a good second over C&D when last seen 11 months ago, and his record fresh offers encouragement.
15:35- Kingsmere has benefited from a return to the smaller obstacles, matching the pick of his chase form with a facile success at Cheltenham five days ago, and a reproduction of that would make him extremely difficult to beat. He hasn't exactly gone under the radar, however, and is sure to take up a large proportion of the pool, so it makes sense to add Midnight Cataria for a bit of insurance as she has twice won at this course, including once over C&D, and was by no means disgraced on her most recent start.
16:05- It is difficult to ignore the claims of August Hill as she is unpenalised for a comfortable win at Wincanton last Sunday where she was suited by the application of a hood and the combination of a strong pace and a sound surface. August Hill looks sure to go well around this speed-favouring track and she represents banker material.
16:35- Foundry Square hasn't quite scaled the heights expected of him following his impressive win at Newbury, but, having made no impression at Cheltenham, he bounced back to form returned to calmer waters here recently. The way he moved through that contest suggests that he is operating at somewhere near the top of his game, and he should give another good account.
