Ludlow Placepot: Monday January 26

Monday's Placepot comes from Ludlow
Monday's Placepot comes from Ludlow

In theory, the bigger fields at Ludlow can swell the dividend, so that's where we head for Monday's Placepot.

"Our best Placepot option in this leg is Snowell, who has consistently shaped as though capable of better this season."

13:45 - A top-heavy market in this juvenile, with Cape Caster our selection from the three that look to stand out from the rest. He can evidently take anything the ground throws at him, given his best Flat run came on heavy ground and conditions were similar when he made a taking start over hurdles at Ffos Las.

14:15 - The market suggests that Ebony Empress is ready coming off a break, but our best options lie elsewhere. Forgivienne and Annaluna were third and fourth respectively in the same race at Fontwell on Boxing Day and both have the sort of profile that suggest they'll give their running again. A thorough test would be ideal for both.

14:50 - Unfortunately there is no one runner that we have total faith in. Like Minded might have qualified but for his run last time, when he stopped so quickly as to make one think he was amiss. Besides that he's been fairly consistent. The Musical Guy also makes it in, his attitude better this season and, though his jumping's still not all that, if he's to get away with it anywhere it's round Ludlow.

15:20 - Juveniles Boss des Mottes and Aristocracy stand out in this race and though the former has the greater scope to overcome his mark, the latter is a better option for us. He has more hurdling experience for a start, as well as plenty from the Flat.

15:50 - Our best Placepot option in this leg is Snowell, who has consistently shaped as though capable of better this season. He fell when moving into contention at Fakenham last time but, as with The Musical Guy earlier, any jumping flaws are unlikely to be drawn out at Ludlow.

16:20 - One For The Guv'nr and Seven Nation Army stand out in this closing maiden and, for us, the latter gets preference. He has more experience, both in bumpers and over hurdles, and as it stands will not be favourite.

13:45 - 2
14:15 - 5, 6
14:50 - 4, 5
15:20 - 13
15:50 - 4
16:20 - 6
