Lingfield Placepot: Wednesday December 31

Wednesday's Placepot attempt comes from Lingfield

Lingfield provides the UK racing on New Year's Eve and that is where we head for our Placepot attempt...

Shyron was unlucky not to enhance his already-impressive all-weather record when finishing a narrow runner-up at Wolverhampton last time (met trouble in running) and he can gain compensation here.

12:40- Prime Exhibit is on a long losing run at present and doesn't appear to have returned from a short break in the best of form, but most of his rivals have been faring even worse of late and he looks to hold reasonable claims at this lowly level. Prime Exhibit's clearly no banker proposition, though, so we will also add Bennelong to the permutation. Bennelong was well below par last time, but it's possible that he was simply in need of the run and at least he's not arriving here on the back of a sustained period of poor form, like many of his rivals.

13:10- Glorious Dancer showed his first bit of meaningful form in maidens when finishing fifth here last time, and he has the profile of an obvious improver now starting out in handicap company. Souk Al Tahab is another who could well improve significantly now tackling handicaps, and he shaped well on his most recent start, suggesting a better performance is just around the corner.

13:40- Plaisir has shaped with a bit of promise on both career starts and sets a decent standard in this seven-furlong maiden. Marco Botti's filly failed to improve on her debut effort when chasing home a potentially useful sort at Kempton, but it was still a reasonably encouraging performance and she ought to be on the premises.

14:10- Compton Prince looks like the one to concentrate on for Placepot purposes as he arrives here on the back of a solid runner-up effort over C&D and appears likely to give his running. Compton Prince is an infrequent winner but he is in good form and actually shaped better than the bare result last time, not ideally placed to launch his challenge. A similar performance should be good enough to see us progress in the Placepot.

14:40- Shyron was unlucky not to enhance his already-impressive all-weather record when finishing a narrow runner-up at Wolverhampton last time (met trouble in running) and he can gain compensation here. Shyron is well treated, in good form and looks banker material.

15:10- Franco's Secret put up a respectable effort on his handicap debut, finishing third at Kempton, and he ought to improve for this step up in trip. The lightly-raced Franco's Secret already boasts a level of form that would make him competitive and he could yet be capable of even better.
