Lingfield Placepot: Thursday October 30

Godolphin have some strong chance at Lingfield
Godolphin have some strong chance at Lingfield

It's the opening day of the AW Championships at Lingfield and that is where we head for our Placepot attempt...

12:50- The opening seven-furlong maiden looks a good opportunity for the regally-bred Crystal Zvezda to register a first success. A half-sister to Crystal Capella and Hillstar, Crystal Zvezda is clearly bred to make up into a smart filly, and she showed some promise in the face of a stiff task on debut, up against two exciting prospects in a Newbury minor event. She will benefit from that initial experience and ought to prove far too good.

13:20- This could revolve around Sharqeyih and Alfajer as both horses showed plenty of promise on debut and are likely to dominate the finish here. Marginal preference is for Sharqeyih as she is bred to be useful and would have gone close on debut granted a clear run. She is open to stacks of improvement, sets a narrow standard and looks banker material to finish in the first three.

13:50- It's no surprise to see Hills And Dales at the head of the market as he looked a decent prospect on his first couple of outings, but he did shape as if amiss last time, and that has to be a concern. We will instead side with Longside as he ran respectably at Wolverhampton last time, despite still looking a little rough around the edges, and should benefit from this step up in trip. There are a couple of interesting newcomers, notably the John Gosden-trained Skimp. Skimp comes from a smart family, is in excellent hands and has to be respected. We will include her in the permutation.
14:20- The unexposed Leonard Thomas has attracted support, and he certainly appeals as the most likely winner. He is well worth keeping on side, and is the first horse that we will include, however his fitness has to be taken on trust after an extended absence, so it is worth including Little Buxted for a spot of insurance. Little Buxted only has a maiden win to his name, and is on a long losing run at present, but he has run a number of respectable races, often hitting the frame, and appears reasonably treated relative to most of these rivals.

14:50- It could pay to focus on Godolphin's duo of Tearless and Wahgah as both fillies rank highly on Timeform ratings and remain relatively unexposed. Tearless has had just the three starts to date, but she has shown plenty of ability and shaped better than the bare result at Salisbury last time, tiring close home having tried giving chase to the well-ridden winner. With so few miles on the clock, Tearless ought to progress further and should go close. Wahgah seems at home on the all-weather, so it is encouraging that she ran so well at Newmarket last time, finishing placed in a well-contested listed race, and her form makes her a leading player.
15:20- Hidden Gold has unsurprisingly proven extremely popular in the market following an impressive win here last time, the turn of foot she demonstrated to sweep from last to first leaving a lasting impression. She is likely to give it another really good go, seemingly improving all the time, and represents banker material.
