A small profit at Kempton last night kept things ticking over and we head to Lingfield in search of landing Thursday's Placepot...
Story Writer's recent record, whilst frustrating for backers, makes him a must for Placepot inclusion...
16:40 - Kuala Queen shaped well on debut at a big price last week and she sets the standard in this opening maiden. She travelled well at Leicester before keeping on well in the closing stages and holds solid claims. Hipz hasn't any racecourse experience but comes from a shrewd yard that are capable of readying one and we add the daughter of Intense Focus to our permutation.
17:10 - A lot of the runners in this sprint contest look to be in the grip of the handicapper, and as a result the lightly raced pair of Josef Goya and Friendship Is Love look like two of the more interesting contenders. The former ran creditably from a tough draw on his handicap debut at Beverley last time and can improve on that here, whilst David Elsworth's filly was hampered in the same contest when coming home third and remains with potential.
17:40 - A competitive handicap to tackle in which Emerald Sea looks sure to improve on his second at Yarmouth last week and should make the frame from the same mark. The other taken at a slightly larger price is Ghostwing who has been running respectably of late, despite looking quirky, and wasn't far away over 7f here on his penultimate start. He shaped as if still in form at Chepstow again last time and merits consideration.
18:10 - A sole selection will suffice in the second maiden on this evening's card, where Disco Inferno can put his abundance of experience to good use and finally get off the mark. He was a solid second to Spin Artist at Chepstow (now rated BHA rated 87) and if the first-time blinkers have a positive impact he has a live chance of shedding his maiden tag.
18:40 - A contest containing a few quirky characters as we switch to the synthetic surface, on which Story Writer's recent record, whilst frustrating for backers, makes him a must for Placepot inclusion. He has been second in six of his last ten starts; he lost out by half a length over a shorter trip here last time but has already proven that he stays this distance and can continue his admirable, if slightly exasperating, run.
19:10 - Ebony Roc was the subject of significant market support when second at Kempton in June and he can bounce back from a disappointing effort last time to help us secure the Placepot. It is also worth including Like Clockwork who won over this distance off a 2 lb lower mark in May last year and, despite what the bare form figures may indicate, has shaped as if retaining his ability this term.
16:40 - 5, 7
17:10 - 2, 5
17:40 - 7, 10
18:10 - 1
18:40 - 1
19:10 - 2, 11
