16:40- One Moment sets the standard based on her early-season efforts, but her progress seems to have stalled somewhat, and it could be worth siding with David Simcock's filly Escrick who is getting better with each run and shaped well when short of room at Beverley last time. She is likely to give a good account and will be our sole representative in the opening leg.
17:10- Johnny Splash ran to form last time, simply unable to go with a progressive three-year-old at Brighton, and he is well drawn to employ his favoured forcing tactics here. He meets nothing with the potential of the filly who beat him last time, and he can go well. This is quite a trappy heat, though, so the well-handicapped Pharoh Jake also makes the shortlist. He wasn't in the best of form when last seen, but is weighted to strike as a consequence, and makes his return from a short break with his trainer going well.
17:40- Strike A Light is thriving at the moment and she can secure the hat-trick this evening. Rae Guest's yard are going through a good spell at present, and Strike A Light has felt the benefit, justifying good support to win at Yarmouth before following up at the same venue under a penalty, doing well to overcome unfavourable circumstances in the sense that she wasn't as well positioned as her chief rivals. She appeals as the type to carry on giving her running, and should finish in the places this evening.
18:10- Moonvoy and New Identity set the standard here and we will bank on the latter as he boasts an unexposed profile and could still be capable of better. New Identity failed to build on the promise of his debut third when filling the same place at Chepstow last time, possibly unsuited by the faster conditions, but he can bounce back here and is likely to be involved in the finish.
18:40- Saborido was unsuited by the steady pace when finishing runner-up over C&D last time, but he still fared much better than of late, which is encouraging for his prospects today, and a reproduction of that form would give him strong claims. It would be a risk banking on Saborido backing up that effort, so we will also put No Such Number in the permutation as he ran creditably to finish runner-up at Kempton last time, shaping as if he is on a good mark, and he should remain competitive.
19:10- Giant Sequoia has to carry a penalty for a recent success over C&D but he did win well, showing improved form to register a first Flat triumph since 2009, and he will take a good deal of beating if arriving in the same form. Giant Sequoia's rather patchy profile, allied with the fact he will be heavily supported in the Placepot, means that it is essential we add another horse to the perm, and Zinnobar fits the bill. Zinnobar ran right up to her best to gain a deserved success at the fourteenth time of asking over C&D earlier this month, and she should remain competitive from just a 3 lb higher mark.
