Timeform's Matt Gardner heads to Lingfield for Friday's crack at the Placepot...
"As claimers go this is a pretty interesting one with Born To Surprise, a useful but frustrating handicapper for Michael Bell, making his debut for Lee Carter..."
13:30 - The market looks to have it about right in the opening leg, with Stand Guard currently trading at 1.162/13. Everything looks in place for the 10-year-old to gain his 25th career success and he is impossibly to oppose in the Placepot.
14:00 - As claimers go this is a pretty interesting one with Born To Surprise, a useful but frustrating handicapper for Michael Bell, making his debut for Lee Carter having changed hands for 21,000 gns. It's probably a negative that he's instantly dropped to this level but it's easy to see the first-time hood having a positive effect and he is worth including in the perm. The second selection is Rakaan, who wasn't seen to best effect on account of a lack of pace at Wolverhampton last time and is very much the type to bounce back.
14:30 - Bertie Blu Boy arrives here in excellent form but he's 7 lb higher than when scoring here a fortnight ago and may find it more difficult to dominate this field, so can be taken on with Black Truffle and Catalinas Diamond. The first mentioned is fairly consistent and should come on for his first run in four months when fourth two weeks ago, whilst Catalinas Diamond is now on a career-low mark and goes back up to seven furlongs, a distance at which she was successful when last tried as it off a 6 lb higher mark.
15:05 - Truancy is vulnerable to anything less exposed whilst it's difficult to get a handle on the strength of Glace's maiden win so the two to take are War Of Art and Basil Berry. Given that there are just four runners one of them needs to win, but hopefully that comes about.
15:40 - Duelling Dragon makes plenty of appeal on debut but it may be best to side with experience, starting with Touzr who cost 300,000 at the Breeze Ups. He was sent off the 5/4 favourite for a Sandown maiden in September but was badly in need of the experience and should come on plenty for that. The second selection is Android, who sets the standard and remains open to improvement after just two starts.
16:15 - It's possible to make a case for a couple of these but the one to be on is Bert The Alert, who took advantage of a reduced mark to score over two miles here last month. He's up 5 lb but remains fairly treated on old form and should go well.
