We head to Leicester to try and get September off to a profitable start by scooping the Placepot...
"Henry Candy’s Cape Xenia gets the nod if capable of improving on a promising third on debut..."
14:10 - We kick off proceedings with a ten-furlong handicap and given how consistent Ajig has proven himself to be in recent outings he's worth siding with. It's possible this trip will see him to better effect and if that's the case he could go in for the second time in 2014. Scoppio del Carro has made the frame in two of his last three starts and looks a decent bet to be in the mix once again here.
14:40 - A sole selection will suffice in the maiden over seven furlongs which follows in the shape of Fingal's Cave. He's finished runner up on four occasions now but isn't doing anything noticeably wrong and this looks his easiest task to date. He's taken to gain a well-deserved maiden voyage to the winner's enclosure.
15:10 - It's another seven-furlong maiden under consideration next and it looks a weaker contest. Henry Candy's Cape Xenia gets the nod if capable of improving on a promising third on debut; she'll take a lot of stopping if that's the case. Picture Postcard could also figure if capable of leaving her debut effort behind with the step up in trip looking likely to suit on pedigree. She represents top connections and a significantly improved display looks on the cards.
15:40 - Despite there only being five runners for the fillies' nursery up next it looks a competitive contest. We will pin our hopes on a sole selection once again and War Alert is the one for our money. She holds entries in the Rockfel and Cheveley Park and if she can produce a performance even close to justifying those future engagements she must be kept on side.
16:10 - Unexposed pair Fractal and Moshe look the ones to focus on in the handicap over 12 furlongs which follows. The former got off the mark at the third time of asking at Lingfield in January and arrives fresh off a break, but remains highly unexposed. The latter was well enough supported on his handicap debut to suggest he's capable of a decent performance in this sphere and the step-up in trip he faces today might be the key.
16:40 - The final leg of today's perm is a five-furlong nursery and many of the field have exposed profiles. Candelight was placed in his last two starts in maidens and it would be no surprise to see him improve on his debut in handicap company. Zipedeedodah also makes his debut in this sphere and his six-length second to Burnt Sugar last time looks good enough form to see him make the frame here.
