Leicester provides the best of the action this afternoon and that's where we head for Monday's attempt at the Placepot.
Athletic is a largely consistent type and arrives here in good form having finished placed on his last couple of outings, matching the pick of his efforts this season.
12:50- John Quinn's Smart Mover ran well behind an improving type at Catterick recently, doing well to come from off the pace in a steadily-run race, and she makes appeal in a competitive nursery. We will also include the consistent Kenstone as he has finished runner-up on all three starts in nursery company and can be relied upon to give another good account from a fair mark. This really is tricky, however, so Calendonian Gold also makes the permutation as his consistency is hard to knock, for all he isn't really progressing.
13:20- Zaza Zest was the standout pick at the weights when easily winning a C&D seller earlier this month, not needing to be at her best to prevail. She looks to have been found another good opportunity and holds leading claims of following up on these terms.
13:50- Athletic is a largely consistent type and arrives here in good form having finished placed on his last couple of outings, matching the pick of his efforts this season. He remains vulnerable to anything progressive or well treated, but can be relied upon to give his running and is effective in testing conditions. Jack's Revenge is also worth including as, whilst he's on a long losing streak, he has been given a chance by the handicapper and put up a creditable effort when finishing runner-up at Chester last time.
14:25- Equistar's form in maidens has been a bit patchy, but he ran to a fairly useful level when finishing second at Newmarket in August and that form sets the standard here. He shaped better than the distance beaten suggests on his nursery bow at Kempton last time, holding every chance until faltering inside the final furlong, and he ought to go very close to getting off the mark in this weaker contest.
14:55- Fabricate could take a bit of beating here based on his impressive Haydock win, but it's a bit disconcerting that he's been off since May, and Top Tug could be worth siding with in the Placepot. Sir Michael Stoute's four-year-old has run with credit in some top-end, competitive handicaps and he will relish underfoot conditions here. A bold bid is expected and he can benefit if Fabricate fails to produce his best.
15:30- Shine Likeadiamond remains a maiden after 10 starts, but she has shown fair form and has finished runner-up on her last six outings, so she makes plenty of appeal in the Placepot. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with Shine Likeadiamond's attitude, she's just vulnerable to horses with more ability, and another bold bid is surely on the cards.
