Kempton Placepot: Tuesday August 18

Kempton stage an interesting all-weather meeting on Tuesday

There's a good card at Kempton this afternoon and that's where we head for Tuesday's attempt at the Placepot.

Melodica did well to finish a close-up third at Wolverhampton last time having met trouble in running and she remains open to improvement, particularly over this kind of trip.

14:15- Mutamid produced a career-best effort to score at Wolverhampton last time and he should be capable of following up. He didn't appear to be doing much in front at Wolverhampton, which suggests that he may still have a bit up his sleeve, and a 4 lb rise in the weights is unlikely to stop this progressive three-year-old.

14:45- The well-bred Kazziana shaped with plenty of promise when finishing third on debut and, with improvement coming, she should prove difficult to beat. Kazziana represents the in-form Charlie Appleby yard and may prove a notch above today's rivals.

15:15- The Charlie Fellowes-trained Kasseopia shaped with promise when finishing sixth on debut at Doncaster and ought to be a different proposition with that run under his belt. Kasseopia can boast a decent pedigree and looks sure to improve so we will include him in the Placepot. We will also include Spanish Boy as he too shaped with promise on debut, hitting the line hard having taken time to warm to his task. He should improve significantly on that effort and is likely to go close here.

15:45- The form of Hawkbill's Lingfield maiden win has worked out well with a couple of the beaten horses winning next time out, and Godolphin's progressive juvenile may have been let in lightly on his handicap bow. The expensively-purchased Hawkbill is bred to be smart and he's likely to carry on improving for a while yet now that he's found his stride.

16:15- This is a competitive handicap and it's worth keeping a few onside. Windy Citi has a good record at this venue and was an authoritative winner last time, winning narrowly but never looking in danger having tanked to the front. All of Windy Citi's form in handicaps has been achieved at a mile but her strong-travelling style suggests she has the speed to cope with the drop to seven furlongs, and she can give a good account. Outer Space is an infrequent winner but he's shaped better than the bare result a few times this year and Jamie Spencer may be an ideal jockey booking for this hold-up sort. Joining Windy Citi and Outer Space in the Placepot permutation is C&D winner Mulzamm. Mulzamm comes here on the back of a good runner-up effort over six furlongs at Leicester and he will have no problems stepping back up in trip.

16:45- Melodica did well to finish a close-up third at Wolverhampton last time having met trouble in running and she remains open to improvement, particularly over this kind of trip. The powerful way in which Melodica stayed on last time suggests that she will relish this stiffer test, and she can cash in from this lenient-looking mark.
