All eyes will be on The New One at Kempton, but there are some other interesting races, and that is where we head for Sunday's Placepot attempt...
It is impossible to oppose The New One as he is a top-class hurdler and should prove far too good for his rivals...
14:15- There isn't much hurdle form on offer, but it looks a warm event nevertheless, plenty of leading yards represented with types that have shown ability on the Flat. All Set To Go looks especially interesting based on a placed effort in a Group 3 on the Flat the last time he was seen, and he reappears having switched to the powerful Paul Nicholls yard. He is the first horse to make the permutation. He is joined by Gladstone as he was fairly useful on the Flat in France and has joined an up-and-coming stable who have made a good start to the season.
14:45- Just seven go to post here, but it is a trappy contest, no horse holding convincing claims. Owen Na View should be sharper for a recent run over hurdles and would be a major player if reproducing the sort of effort that saw him go close at Perth in July. Don't Take Me Alive has had a few chances without managing to get his head in front of late but at least he hails from an in-form yard and comes here on the back of a good effort, so he is also worth including.
15:20- Parlour Games could make no impression in the ultra-competitive Galway Hurdle last time but he will be well suited by this return to calmer waters and faces optimum conditions. Parlour Games showed definite signs of ability on the Flat for Godolphin, and he made a pleasing start to life in this sphere when winning hard held at Huntingdon. He may not be the most consistent of types but should prove a class apart this afternoon and looks banker material.
15:50- This doesn't look the strongest event for the grade and it could be worth taking a chance on Regal Presence as he is undeniably well treated on his best form. He clearly isn't the most reliable of types, however, so we will also put Prince des Marais in the permutation as he cashed in on his reduced mark last time and could still be fairly treated having gone up just 5 lb.
16:25- It is impossible to oppose The New One as he is a top-class hurdler and should prove far too good for his rivals. The New One will be campaigned in all the top hurdle races this season, with the Champion Hurdle the ultimate objective, and this looks like the perfect starting point.
17:00- The concluding race of the Placepot looks like a tightly-knit handicap chase, but Violets Boy has a likeable profile for Placepot purposes, finishing runner-up on his last four outings and running right up to his best last time. He jumps fine, travels well and is likely to give another good account.
